Insecure Writer’s Support Group

This is my first time posting with the Insecure Writer’s Support Group hosted by Alex. Writing books that have homosexual or lesbian characters can be rough since many are wary about reading such books. The reason I decided to go for it anyway is because I want to write about people who  while seen as very different by many aren’t so different from the rest of us really. So take a peek around my blog and see if any of the novels I’m working on might interest you. All I ask is that you keep an open mind.

  1. Hi, Roe,

So nice to meet you, and WELCOME to the IWSG… I admire your strength to write this post. You ill soon find out that this community is open, caring, and WONDERFUL. No need to be INSECURE about the subject matter you write about. You will find MANY bloggers that write about gay and lesbian themes.

  2. Welcome to the group. I can see where you would feel insecure- on the other hand, I’ve run into several agents looking specifically for GLBTG stories! The market is there, and your story ideas are intriguing. Go for it!

  3. I understand your feelings. As I was writing my novel my husband pointed out that two of my characters were homosexual. I had in no way planned that – it was just the way the characters were and sometimes that is exactly it. It is simply the way they are and to alter them out of concern for those who may not feel comfortable would be no different than asking your gay uncle to bring a girl as his date to your wedding for fear of offending other guests.

    Welcome to #IWSG

  4. Thank goodness the world is actually so much more open to LGBT fiction these days. A couple summers ago there was a big kerfuffle about an editor trying to get an author to change a gay character straight and the response was amazing. So many agents and editors stood up to request more LGBT writing and I’m seeing a lot more available, which is so great, especially for teens who are still trying to figure out where they stand.
